Festivals and Events
Florence is home to a number of international festivals and events that take place throughout the year. One of the most famous is the Explosion of the Cart, one of the city’s main folk festivals. A celebration of the city’s vibrant and rich history, the main event features a cartload of fireworks; which is hauled by six white oxen from Porta a Prato to the Duomo.
Other famous events include the Costume Football Game and the Festival of the Cricket, which derives from the regions tradition of pagan festivities. The city’s St. John’s Day celebrations, which take place in June, feature a breathtaking firework display that is not to be missed.
